Queens, NY native Michael Fiya is next up as he gets ready to carry the torch of New York hip –hop. Inspired by the legends of the city that came before him like Lloyd Banks, Fabolous, and Jadakiss, Michael Fiya quickly perfected his freestyles and lyrical agility at a young age. Growing a genuine interest in rap as a career path in middle school, Michael began to notice the need to branch off from freestyles and after-school rap battles, and start getting serious in the booth.
Michael Fiya was soon taken under the wing of DJ JC (a family friend and personal DJ for rapper Ja Rule) who helped place Michael in his first recording studio to practice the craft and build up his skills. After a brief hiatus of recording music, Michael Fiya soon returned to the studio while still in high school, but this time would prove the sincerity that Michael had for the love of hip-hop. Fiya, along with his former business partner Era, put their funds together during their sophomore year of high school to purchase basic recording equipment and production software. Together, they had also launched their own company, Loyal 2 the Grind Productions. The two released only one project, Lyrical Wholesale, and a music video during their time in business shortly before disbanding due to creative differences.
Moving to New Jersey with his mother after graduating high school in 2008 resulting in another hiatus, Michael Fiya linked up with NJ producer E-Dot Da Sound Man a year later. Michael found himself growing as an artist and entrepreneur, and began to record again in both more professional and makeshift home studios, which eventually led to him getting more in-tuned with his own sound.
In addition to opening for comedian IMD in Philly during 2012, Michael Fiya has entertained crowd at performances across the east coast including multiple appearances in Philadelphia, Brooklyn, and Club Magnet in Queens, NY. His most acclaimed works have been “Knock Knock” featuring frequent collaborator Gunna, “West Coast With Me,” and his music video for the single, “Get It Together.”
Currently, Michael Fiya has founded a new company, Well Deserved, a full-fledged media and entertainment company, as well as preparing merchandise and new music to be released in the coming year. Fans can shortly expect to see Michael Fiya on tour after the release of his 6-track EP, First Take, in collaboration with Gunna due January 30, 2017.
